Now that you don’t have GOT to obsess over anymore, it’s time to move on to a new passion. We like the way the folks at Rent.com’s blog think – so we’re borrowing a page from their book (or blog post) to highlight some exceptional shows to sink your teeth into this summer:
- “Big Little Lies”
If you’re as impressed with HBO as the rest of the world, then this show will add to your love of the network. Taking place in the Pacific Northwest in Monterey, CA, “Big Little Lies” follows a group of women as they take on life’s biggest issues.
From adoption, abusive relationships, cheating scandals and so on, Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman guide the cast through trial and tribulation. The first season was released last year, and the reviews have been nothing but stellar.
Meryl Streep is set to join the ladies this season, and that should be convincing enough. The new season is set to be released June 9 on HBO.
- “Stranger Things”
Ready to take a visit back to the Upside Down? If you aren’t familiar, in the show, the Upside Down is an alternate dimension that the characters travel through.
The 3rd season of Stranger Things is set to release July 4 on Netflix. Follow the kids as they navigate through another season of supernatural phenomenons.
From monsters to making it home in time for dinner, this young group of kids gets into trouble in the most interesting ways. Millie Bobby Brown and the rest of the original cast is set to return and you won’t want to miss out.
- “Black Mirror”
This series is one of the craziest you will ever see. “Black Mirror” is a mind-bending journey through many different characters’ lives. The show follows different people in every episode.
Some episodes take place in the far future and some episodes take place in the past. But they have one thing in common: The idea that technology is as evil as it is good. The name of the show resembles how any sort of screen appears when it’s not lit up, whether it’s your phone screen, computer screen or television screen. All screens appear as “black mirrors” when they aren’t lit up. Kind of scary, huh?
Netflix’s storylines in this series will make you think twice about how important it is to be so involved with the online community. If you haven’t watched the first few seasons, start binging now in time for the new release sometime later this year. You don’t want to miss this series, and summertime is the perfect time to stream it.
- “Selling Sunset”
Do you love reality television? Do you love real estate? Do you love binge watching Netflix shows? “Selling Sunset” is an entertaining, binge-worthy show that follows along a group of women-only realtors through the Hollywood Hills.
The idea behind this group of realtors is that who better to sell you a $20 million home than the most beautiful women in California? From wealth, to drama, to stunning real estate, this group of women will take you from mansion to mansion, extensions and all, from the comfort of their Louboutins.
These ladies are no strangers to six figure commissions. They’re also no strangers to competing for the top spot on the team.
- “The Handmaid’s Tale”
Releasing its new season on June 5, Hulu returns with an astounding story about a totalitarian regime that has taken the place of America. In this show, handmaids are given the task of reproducing for wealthy couples that are unable to have children on their own.
In this society, it has become difficult for women to bear children, so the handmaids are seen as necessary, yet hated. The handmaids are only allowed to leave their respective chambers in order to go grocery shopping.
“The Handmaid’s Tale” gives off an extremely eerie vibe, but it’s addicting. You’ll want to follow along as the main character does whatever she can to overcome this dystopian society and create a better world for herself and the other handmaids.
- “Euphoria”
“Euphoria” is an HBO series set to be released on June 16. The show is produced by none other than Drake himself, and the leading role is played by Zendaya. The show is based on a similar show that became extremely popular in Israel.
Giving off “Degrassi” vibes, Euphoria follows a group of high school students through their everyday lives. From social media to sex and drugs, the show will document what it’s like being a teenager in today’s advancing society.
You’re going to want to watch these students as they face first time love, creating and ending friendships, and balancing the real world with the social media world.
- “The Crown”
Netflix has professed that “The Crown” is one of the most expensive shows ever produced by the technology empire. This incredible series follows the rise of Queen Elizabeth II. Although it may not sound as riveting as it truly is, we urge you to give it a try. You will be binging in no time.
The characters play their roles well, and Netflix has not shied away from including some of the most dramatic, scandalous moments in England’s history. Watch as the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh take on some of life’s most important decisions, all while ruling a nation.
